Piñata in action! Halloween festivities.

27 Oct

As my previous post, you all know I made my own Halloween piñata costume! Here are some photos from this past weekend of the costume in action! And for those who missed it, here’s my tutorial on how I made the costume! I made some slight tweaks though as I was putting on the costume. Because I failed to consider that hot glue was going to restrict the dress from stretching, I actually had to cut the back of the dress and do a criss cross tie with red yarn so it fits properly. But you shouldn’t have a problem if you bought a bigger dress or used fabric glue instead of hot glue like I did! Otherwise, I got so many compliments on this costume because you definitely don’t see piñatas on day to day basis! It was definitely one of my more unique halloween costume ideas! What do you guys think?!

Stay tuned! I’m trying out a new recipe this week- Pumpkin Spice cupcakes and will have photos + the recipe up sometime this week! And I’ll be working on another quote paper cut idea for my Etsy shop this weekend!

…because of action.

I came across a really good read today on WP about inspiration by Today Was Meaningful and the blogger’s take on it was very interesting. I definitely do find myself constantly looking for something to inspire me, whether it’s for the next art project or a change in perspective. Maybe that’s why I started blogging…. or my Etsy shop so I’m constantly surrounding myself with inspirational quotes. But I couldn’t agree more with Today Was Meaningful’s post- “If you don’t know where to start, just start somewhere”. I guess that’s always been one of my biggest fears…. of messing up once I start doing something and failing. But if we never start, how will we ever succeed? One of my biggest takeaways from this post is, “if we only get one chance to use our lives up…… maybe it’s time to ask yourself if you’re doing just that; and if you aren’t, maybe it’s time to start.”

So I just had to repost- Click on the link above “Today Was Meaningful” to read her post in it’s entirety and please share your thoughts and ideas!

DIY Piñata Costume: Halloween awaits!

18 Oct

Halloween is in a week or so and I cannot wait! For those who read from my previous post, I made my own piñata costume! It took a little longer than expected, about an average of 3.5 hours, but totally worth it! I can’t wait to show it off come Halloween! This entire costume cost me a little over $20! Where can you buy a costume for this price? **Side note- I apologize in advance for the horrible lighting of these pictures- I was under pressure of taking a photo quick while I was making this project and the hot glue gun was starting to get messy.**

>>>>> Supplies <<<<<

Dress ( from H&M- $13)

Rainbow color streamers ($1 each from the Dollar Store= $6)

Hot Glue and Hot Glue Gun (Already Own) or Fabric glue if you prefer

Magazines (Had lying around the apartment)

Party Hats ($1 from the Dollar Store)

>>>>>> Steps <<<<<<<

1. Line the dress with the magazines so the hot glue does not bleed through! Then measure out the width of your dress with your streamers and organize the streamers based on the color coordination you prefer.

2. Once you have the streamer color order lined up, slowly cut the fringe into the streamers.

3. I made about 20 strips before taking out the hot glue gun and gluing them down.

4.  I scrounged the strips a little to add more texture to it and made it look like an authentic. And Ta da! This is the finished result! I’ll have a picture of the costume on shortly! For the hat, I just made smaller strips of fringe streamers and glued them on two party hats.

Thoughts?! I’m still thinking about making a small bag to go with this costume. That way I can actually carry my phone and ID/ card and potentially candy… since after all, I am a piñata! Anyone else making their own Halloween costume?

Grass isn’t always greener on the other side…

15 Oct

For those who have been following, I’ve posted a while back on a late night craft, but completely forgot to show y’all the finished result. Here’s how the finalized result looks like! And it’s available on Etsy! This is one of the few quotes that I use as my daily motivation. Sometimes, it’s easy to think other people have it better than you and that it comes easily for them. But when in reality, we have no idea what others had to do to get to where they are today. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, it’s greener where you water it. This quote applies for work, relationships and everything in life and is a constant reminder that when you want something, you have to work for it, that it doesn’t always come handed to you on a silver platter.

Here is the before….

And the after!

Biggest DIY Project of all time!

9 Oct

Hey y’all!
So this past weekend, I’ve been working vigorously on my latest and greatest DIY project of all time… *drum roll please* I finally set up my Etsy shop! For the longest time, I’ve had an Etsy account, but I used it mostly to bookmark and favorite some of my favorite designs and crafts, never did I think I was going to open my own! I had a little extra time on my hands and I figured why not put all the quotes and canvases I’ve painted to good use! My biggest problem when it comes to DIY is I love the process of finding new projects and I thoroughly enjoy making every single one of them, but once it’s completed, then what?! There is only so much wall room for all my paintings and other decors to hang! So I finally decided to set up an Etsy shop and see if it’ll further assist my crafting habits! For those who have been following my earlier posts, some of my canvases like my HIMYM canvas and the Ron Swanson canvas is available on my shop.

Even if you don’t plan on buying anything at this moment, please take a look around and check it out and share your thoughts on what my next project should be! Thanks for stopping by and until next time!

Fall in love with Leg warmers!

3 Oct

Though it’s October, it definitely doesn’t feel like fall outside. Not sure if I like it or not yet…. It feels like an awkward time, between the wonderful hot summer days of shorts and tank tops and the super cozy fall weather of sweaters and scarves. Now it’s too cold to be in shorts, but too hot to be wearing a scarf. I decided to give my new leg warmers a test, even though it’s really more of a fall outfit “accessory”. This is the outfit I chose for a perfect weather such as today! What do y’all think?
